Book is tight, square, sharp-cornered and free of markings or flaws inside and out, other than small and minor stain to corner of front and gift inscription from author to prior owner. "To Mrs. Frances Kellor, Asst to the Chairman, Immigration Committee, Chamber of Commerce, with the sincere regards of the author, George Frederick Kunz, 14 November, 1916." George Frederick Kunz (1856-1932) was an American mineralogist, gemologist, Vice-President of Tiffany's, member and officer of numerous scientific societies, and author of books and articles on gems. He served as the Vice President of Tiffany & Co. in his twenties. Kunz wrote numerous books and articles on precious stones, gems and jewelry, including a series entitled Natal Stones, Sentiments, and Superstitions connected with Precious Stones, printed each year to be given as gifts to customers of Tiffany & Co. Book purchased at the Dreier / Kellor summer home in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Margaret Dreier Robins was Elizabeth's sister-in-law and a fellow progressive activist on women's issues, immigration, prison reform, etc. etc. Mary Dreier and her partner Frances Kellor lived for many summers at the house and were very active social reformers as well and this book came from their library. Frances Alice Kellor (1873 1952) was an American social reformer and investigator, who specialized in the study of immigrants to the United States and women, along with multiple other issues including prison reform, wage issues, etc. etc.
