Very good lightly used copy in a lightly dust soiled dust jacket which has some chipping and creasing with the largest effecting the lettering at head of spine. ÔSpigÕ Wead was an ace pilot in the U.S. Navy just after World War I, greatly contributing to the development of the NavyÕs aviation programs. After an unfortunate accident in which he became paralyzed, he became a writer of novels, stories, and screenplays, including West Point of the Air, China Clipper, Sea Devils, Moon Over Burma, etc. His biographical history Wings for Men served as the inspiration for the great John Ford film The Wings of Eagles starring John Wayne. The front panel of the dust jacket of this book has a wonderful painting of a dirigible air ship soaring above its hangar. A terrific book detailing the history and development of airships in the United States.
