As far back as I can remember . . bred Shorthorn cattle at Anoka Farm, Waukesha, Wisconsin. It was in 1869 that Father (George Harding) purchased the young bull Baron Bertram and three heifers from C C Parks, Glen Flora Farm, Waukegan Illinois, and brought them home. The year before he had purchased an 'eighty' a mile east of the village of Prairieville (now Waukesha). The price of t these four head was $1,200. Later I was told that the whole community was concerned as to the hwisdom of this hardware merchant's investment in 'fancy stock,' and doubts were definitely expressed as to the outcome.''
