Description: This copy is Inscribed and Signed by the author; inscription dated March 25, 1923. Dr Bland was Poet Laureate of California from 1929 to 1931. He came to the State College in San Jose (then the State Normal School) in 1899 to teach in the English Department. There is much of California in his poetry, as well as much that is universal. Some of the California poems: In Camp at Tahoe; By the Sacramento; In a Sierra Forest; A Sierra Morning; In Yosemite; The Keeper of the Sheep; Contra Costa; San Diego by the Sea; and more. (By the way, Sierran Pan is the mythological Pan, not gold panning.) Printed at the Press of Eaton & Company of San Jose. An alphabetical listing by title is found at the end. Foreword by Edwin Markham. BINDING/CONDITION: deep burgundy cloth with gold text; other than a printing flaw, a Very Good+ book. Several pages have a small wrinkle near the top corner at the bound edge. 8vo (about 8 inches tall). 88 pages.
