About this Item
Hardcover in original dust jacket. Signed and dated by the author on the half-title page: 'Bob Shacochis / Cedar Key, 1989.'
A collection of seven stories by the acclaimed American writer whose debut collection Easy in the Islands won the 1985 American Book Award. Set largely in the Caribbean and the American South, these stories blend historical memory, folklore, politics, humor, and magical realism. Contents include Les Femmes Creoles: A Fairy Tale, Stolen Kiss, Where Pelham Fell, I Ate Her Heart, Celebrations of the New World, The Trapdoor, Squirrelly's Grouper, and Hidalgos. The vivid tropical jacket art by Connie Nelson and distinctive typography make this an attractive first-edition example of one of Shacochis' increasingly collectible early works.
Near Fine book in Near Fine dust jacket. Bright red-and-yellow cloth boards with sharp corners, clean gilt spine lettering, and sound binding. Signed half-title page shows only a few faint pencil marks in the upper margin. Interior pages are clean and fresh with no ownership markings noted beyond the author's inscription. Dust jacket remains crisp and attractive with light handling wear and minor rubbing visible under close inspection; original price present on front flap and not price-clipped. Housed in a removable protective Mylar (Brodart) sleeve. Overall a particularly well-preserved signed first printing.
