Add to basketThe novel that inspired the acclaimed film of the same name. Jennifer Lawrence won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her work on this film. The movie also starred Bradley Cooper. The novel is the story of a man in a neural health facility who believes that his life is a movie produced by God; as he regains his memory, he tries to find a happy ending by reconciling with his estranged wife. This, the author's first book, is not particularly common on the market. First edition (first edition stated with a numberline ending in 1). A fine copy (but for a mild mustiness) in a very near fine dust jacket with much less of the usual shelfwear that the uncoated white paper tends to attract. This copy is inscribed on the front free endpaper by the author, "To Judy, All my best M. Q." The inscription is dated 4-30-09. The initials are decorative and large, a style Quick sometimes uses. With a printed card listing reviews of the novel laid in.

In the six months that followed his leaving teaching and the Philadelphia area, Matthew Quick floated down the Peruvian Amazon and formed ‘The Bardbarians’ (a two-man literary circle), backpacked around Southern Africa, hiked to the bottom of a snowy Grand Canyon, soul-searched, and finally began writing full-time.
Matthew earned his Creative Writing MFA through Goddard College. He has since returned to the Philadelphia area, where he lives with his wife and their greyhound.
