London: Faber & Faber, 1951. First edition, first printing. This is a very good copy. The dust jacket is bright, though sustains some small, closed tears throughout. Small loss to the head of the spine. It has not been price clipped (15s. net). The boards are sharp in the original cloth, with some very faint toning. The gilt titling is bright. The ownership signature of Eric Walter White is present to the front fly, dating this copy to the year of publication. The text blocks are clean throughout, but with some small spots to the top edge. Eleven pages of plates to the rear. Overall, this is a very good copy. Eric Walter White (1905–1985) was a prominent British arts administrator, music critic, and musicologist. He is best known for his pivotal role at the Arts Council of Great Britain and for his authoritative histories on opera and composer Igor Stravinsky.
