First edition. No. 16. Signed by both the author and the illustrator. A very good quarter calf binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. 8vo. pp.222 . Five wood-engravings by Reynolds Stone. One of 60 numbered copies, specially bound and printed on Glastonbury laid paper, signed by Eric Linklater and Reynolds Stone. Bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe in quarter red morocco, 5 raised bands, gilt titles, marbled boards and top edge gilt. Light spotting to page edges and endpapers, otherwise clean text and illustrations throughout. Includes a loosely inserted ' printed compliments slip' : "With the compliments of the author and all his good wishes for the New Year". VG.
