The binding is tight, bottom corner of back panel is lightly bumped. Text and images are unmarked, though pgs. 151 to 164 show some yellowing in the gutters from a long lost bookmark. Top stain is clean. Gift inscription on the FFEP. Previous owner has stamped their name at the top of both pastedowns and end papers. The illustrated dust jacket shows some handling, chipping and loss at the head and tail of spine and corners of wraps, edge wear, light soiling, unclipped, in a mylar cover. Signed by Author. Hard Cover. Special Edition. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Small owner's stamp on endpapers; otherwise a fresh, crisp copy. The jacket has small chips at spine ends, and a little wear at edges. "Special Edition" stated on the copyright page. The second front endpaper states: "This special edition was printed exclusively for Helmerich & Payne International Drilling Co. to commemorate the christening of their floating drilling vessel the Spindletop. The vessel was christened on February 2, 1968, at Orange, Texas, by Mrs. W. H. Helmerich." At the bottom of the front panel of the jacket is printed: "Christening Edition February 2, 1968".
