About this Item

A very nice copy of the first edition of Ruth Brandon's excellent review of the fascination of the Occult in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Brandon in part describes how some of society's big thinkers (Conan Doyle, William James, W T Stead and others) were attracted by and arguably taken in by the mediums and fraudsters in Spiritualism. Thus the book has become popular especially with sceptics. Pages are excellent: bright and clean, no tanning, notes or marks, except the author's inscription on front FEP. Binding is excellent as are board covers. DJ is unclipped and very good indeed, just a little shelfwear here and there. Now covered in professional clear removable book cover.
