The first edition of this work (1874) was written from memory, the original manuscript having been destroyed in the Chicago fire of 1871. "This edition . . . . contains much new matter and gives sketches of Elisha Tucker, D. D., and Rev. Wm. Arthur, D. D., (father of President Chester A. Arthur), who forty years ago were men of renown." Binding copy. Condition of the binding is Poor: exterior is rubbed, scuffed, and ragged; casing has separated from about half of the text block and is only loosely attached to the remainder.
