Pale blue cloth with gilt title to the spine and the star and fish motif in gilt on the front cover. Signed by the author on the ffep "Mrs Adderley from George Rostrevor Hamilton, Christmas 1916". Edges, except top, uncut; ffep browned, small tear to spine. "Sir George Rostrevor Hamilton (1888 - 1967) was an English poet, critic and friend of Walter de la Mare. He wrote anthologies of Latin and Greek verse for the Nonesuch Press and conventional war poetry. In his book "The tell-tale particle" on the Auden Group he counted the proportion of definite articles in Auden's verse, remarking that it was much higher than in older styles. He was a director of The Poetry Book Society and was knighted in 1951." Stars and Fishes was the first of the author's works.
