FIRST EDITION. This copy is INSCRIBED by the author in black ink on title page: "F.J. Brown Esq. with the thanks of" [& the printed word "by" is crossed out] - followed by "J.L." [printed, not signed]. Scarce title. OCLC attributes Jula Larned as author, & notes it is also attibuted to Walter Cranston Larned. The same title was published four years later in 1885 by Jansen, McClurg & Co., Chicago, with 84 pages, NOT 88 pages with no publisher listed as in this scarce earlier 1881 copy. This copy lists the author on both title page & spine as "J.L". Contains nine poetic pieces by the author, the main extended title piece runs from page 5 to page 72. Small volume. Bound in original brown cloth with gilt lettering to front board & spine, gilt-ruled front board, top edge gilt, beveled edges, green floral endpapers. Very slight wear to extremities, otherwise a nice clean tight solid hardcover copy. 88pp. Scarce title & RARE SIGNED. Seller Inventory # 001286
