327, [2]pp. 9.5"x6.25" THE TWILIGHT OF AMERICAN BELLES-LETTRES FICTION Having reached his peak in the early 1920s, Joseph Hergesheimer (1880-1954) represents one of the last prominent aesthetic novelists of the early twentieth century. Though Swords & Roses may not be his most renowned work, this signed limited edition of embodies the refined sensibility that made him one of Alfred A. Knopf s leading authors of the 1920s. Hergesheimer's richly cultivated prose would soon be eclipsed by literary modernism and the rising prominence of writers such as Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Faulkner. A fine, signed/limited edition in scarce plain paper dust jacket. Limited to just 225 signed and numbered copies, of which this is 86. Bookplate, else fine, all pages deckle and unopened, in near fine, spine-toned original dust jacket, with sallow three inch chip to upper rear panel, in mylar cover. Publisher's light brown cloth, decorated and titled in silver, in publisher's plain folded paper dust jacket. Seller Inventory # 239639
