Octavo (19.5cm); royal blue cloth, with titles stamped in red on spine; dustjacket; viii,343,[1]pp. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "To Tommy Taggart / in sincere appreciation of friendship and kindness / Fondly / Damon Runyon." Base of spine and lower corners bumped, moderate offsetting to endpapers from binder's glue, with two tiny, stray ink marks to right edge of textblock; contents fresh; Very Good+. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced 7/6 net), lightly edgeworn, with several nicks and small tears, a small chip to lower rear panel, and several splits of various sizes strengthened and mended with tape on verso; Very Good. Runyon's sixth collection of short fiction, gathering 14 stories about gamblers, hustlers, and other "low company." The recipient, Thomas Taggart, Jr., ran the French Lick Springs Hotel in Orange County, Indiana, and served on the National Democratic Committee during the Roosevelt and Truman administrations.
