Front cover and spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Covers very lightly soiled. This edition was limited to 460 copies, this being #199, SIGNED BY ARTHUR RACKHAM on the limitation page. A total of twelve full-page color illustrations mounted on white paper, each with a protective captioned tiissue-guard. Seventeen full-page illustrations in black and white and eleven smaller drawings through the text. Illustrated endpapers. Twenty-five of Poe's classic short stories including, :The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Gold Bug", "The Tell-tale Heart", "The Purloined Letter", and many more. Found on reverse of the front free endpaper are three catalogue slips glued-in. On adjacent page is found an Art Deco book-plate and ink signature dated "Christmas 1941". Please see photos. 317pp. See Latimore and Haskell p.72 and Riall p.180. Housed in the publisher's custom slipcase with label and limitation number.
