About this Item

Description:

Octavo (approximately 5 5/8" wide by 8 5/8" tall) light yellow cloth covers with titles stamped in dark blue. xiii + 400 pages. Includes appendices and index. No dust jacket. Ryoichi Fujii's copy with his signature on the front free endpaper. Laid in is a postcard from Kroch's Bookstore in Chicago addressed to the Chicago Shimpo, notifying that the book is being held for them. There is some underlining in the book with red pencil, presumably by Fujii. Ryoichi Fujii (1905-1983) was a Japanese-American journalist, political commentator, and political activist. Between 1936-and 1940, he was a member of the American Communist Party active in southern California. Fujii was interned during World War II, first at the Santa Anita camp and then at the Heart Mountain camp. In 1945 he founded the Chicago Shimpo, the Chicago area Japanese language newspaper (English was added later). Japanese-Americans, American communism, Witch Hunt. 090617A.
