Davis receiving a Silver Loving Cup from the 13th Massachusetts Association for his work producing this history of the regiment. CONDITION DESCRPTION: Light rubbing to corner, edges and spine ends; light soiling, bit on cover and spine bright. Interior with brown endpapers. The tipped in old newspaper article has caused considerable browning to the adjacent pages, including the blank preliminary page with the author's dedication and signature. Else interior is clean and tight. Overall, a VG+ copy of a scarce Massachusetts regimental history with a nice history of its own. With clear mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The Thirteenth Massachusetts Volunteers Infantry was one of the first units from Massachusetts to answer the call to defend the Union. As part of the Army of the Potomac, the engagements the Thirteenth Massachusetts Volunteers fought in include the 2nd Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and others. The regiment was at Petersburg when their term of service expired. The author describes the daily life of the soldiers, including their training, food, and living conditions. Throughout the book, the author provides insights into the soldiers' thoughts and feelings, as well as their relationships with one another. This account is a well-done, comprehensive and engaging narrative of the regiment s experiences during the Civil War.
