Handwritten signed letter from Stanley Middleton to June Barraclough loosely inserted written on headed notepaper from 42 Caledon Road, Sherwood, Nottingham, NG5 2NG dated 26-iii-93 , two sides closely written and consisting of about 800 words in which he discusses her book (very favourably). He discusses her writing, her plot the 'surprising bits' and several of the charcters in some detail, sex scenes, pregnancy, suicide etc., He writes that he cannot understand why she is not better known-- blaming the publisher. He aslo mentions the succes of Vikram Seth's 1000 page novel 'A Suitable Boy' and Seth's poetry. He ends by saying he will be sending a copy of his new novel 'Marriage Beyond Redemption' and signs off 'with love Stanley'. June Barraclough (1930 Ð 2006) was born and brought up at Brighouse, Yorkshire. A feminist and a teacher of languages and literature she became a romantic novelist at the age of 55. Stanley Middleton (1919 Ð 2009) was a novelist who won the Booker Prize in 1974. Very good. ISBN 0709047487. Fine in near fine d/w slightly sun faded at spine. Excellent condition.
