Denne to the front pastedown.With a newspaper article from the Daily Telegraph 1975 titled 'A Shepherd of the Hills' by J. H. B. Peel, tipped in to the rear endpaper.In the original green cloth binding.Illustrated with a frontispiece and three plates of photographs. Collated, complete.Walter Johnson travelled around the country documenting the lives and practices of shepherds from the 1870s to the end of the century. His conversations are documented here, creating a fascinating glimpse into this part of English history. With a chapter on the Sussex shepherd and archaeologist, Stephen Blackmore. In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. With light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Small marks to the boards. With a plate tipped in to the front pastedown, signed by the author's daughter. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean.
