Red w/gilt lettering and decoration. Gilt lettering to spine dulled. Dampstains tip both upper and lower corners, the upper being more severe, no other marks. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper "To _____ with sincere appreciation, C.L. Carlsen, 2/3/17 San Francisco" Tucked inside the book is a two-page letter to the same person for whom the book is inscribed. The letter is dated 2/5/1917. Carlsen writes about his thoughts on writing the book, various reviews of the book, and a bit of his own history in the San Francisco Bay area, begining with his birth in Alameda in 1880.
