First edition, first impression; AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION COPY. Wonderfully inscribed at publication to the ffep by Anthony Powell and signed to the title page, striking through his printed name; Powell's inscription reads: "Arnold from Tony / with much gratitude for reading at short notice a grossly untidy MS, and offering valuable advice on the American language. May 1973”. Powell introduces two American characters to the series in this book, Russell Gwinnett and Louis Glober. While it is unclear who the recipient is, Powell had a noted friendship with the American cartoonist Arnold Roth at this time. As Powell’s custom was to sign only for friends and acquaintances, signed examples of any of the Dance novels are scarce. Near Fine+: firm and square binding in sharp red cloth; a hint of rubbing to the spine tips; very faint ring mark to the upper board; else, bright, crisp and clean throughout. The unclipped dustwrapper (£2.25 net stated) is Near Fine: crisp and vibrant; a little toning to the spine; presented in a removable protective cover. A special copy. All orders are sent very carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard.…

A Dance to the Music of Time – his brilliant 12-novel sequence, which chronicles the lives of over three hundred characters, is a unique evocation of life in twentieth-century England.
The novels follow Nicholas Jenkins, Kenneth Widmerpool and others, as they negotiate the intellectual, cultural and social hurdles that stand between them and the “Acceptance World.”
