Second printing of Theory of Flight by Muriel Rukeyser, published by Yale University Press in February 1936 as part of the Yale Series of Younger Poets. This was Rukeyser's first book, originally awarded publication in 1935 by judge Stephen Vincent Benét, who also contributes the foreword. Copy is personally inscribed and signed by Muriel Rukeyser in 1937: "For Duncan and Byrne, Happy New Year, affectionately - Muriel, 1937." A remarkable early association. Bound in tan cloth with red spine lettering, in the scarce red printed dust jacket (chipped, worn, and with small losses, particularly along top edge). Text block sound and clean, with original ephemera insert bound in at rear. A rare signed example of Rukeyser's debut volume, foundational to her career as a major twentieth-century American poet.
