Boston, Massachusetts: The Bibliophile Society, 1904. With etching of The Bookworm, SIGNED by W. H. Bicknell. Largely unread copy with pages generally unopened at the top. Fine condition. Complete with the publisher's Very Good unprinted (translucent) dust jacket. Housed in a Very Good original double slipcase, with a lightly sunned paper label printed in red and black on the outer slipcase. The outer slipcase is only very lightly rubbed. The inner slipcase is Fine. With the handsome bookplate of prominent collector Philip Greely Brown. Square, tight, and unmarked. Sharp corners. No fraying. Pages are crisp and creamy white. No yellowing. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. THIRD YEAR BOOK, 1904, THE BIBLIOPHILE SOCIETY. First Edition. The frontispiece is a magnificent etching of The Bookworm by W. H. Bicknell (after C. Spitzweg's famous painting of a distinguished gentleman standing atop a step ladder in an impressive private library). The etching is signed in pencil by the artist. Other illustrations are full-page photos and portrait. All illustrations are complete with their inserted tissue-guards with printed captions. Contents include: PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS by Nathan Haskell Dole; and THE BOOK COLLECTOR by Adrian H. Joline. Also included are lists of members; officers and council; reports of the treasurer and secretary; constitution and bylaws; a necrology of deceased members; and a detailed bibliography of the Society's publications. "Limited to 500 copies" and "Printed for Members Only" are so stated on a handsome engraving of the Society's emblem.
