Review
Boyden is a natural storyteller. Both the Native tales of the north and the grim accounts of the war in France and Belgium have the ring of truth. His images can be subtly appropriate--raiders who go over the top are "eaten by the night"--and his characterizations are excellent, especially the three main players and Xavier's Canadian trenchmates. Eventually, Elijah seems to feed on the death all around him, becoming a "windigo," while Xavier begins to question the sanity of the war and his friend's growing madness, realizing "we all fight on two fronts, the one facing the enemy, the one facing what we do to the enemy." Not for the squeamish reader, this is a powerful novel that takes a new angle on a popular subject, "the war to end all wars." --Mark Frutkin, Amazon.ca

Store description
Operating continuously since 2004, SIGNAL BOOKS specializes in autographed fiction in collector's condition. All books are 1st printings of the 1st edition, unless otherwise noted. All dust jackets are protected in a clear, acid-free sleeve. And 85% of our book inventory is autographed by the author because SB is located near Toronto, an international hub for author events. Regarding condition, we believe in full and frank disclosure. We describe objects conservatively and thoroughly so you won't have any unpleasant surprises. And you may rely on us to take care in packing your order so it will arrive as described. If you've grown tired of buying from dealers who lack the expertise or the willingness to fully describe flaws or who are purposely vague in their descriptions, buy from us and put that aggravation behind you. We ship in sturdy boxes - NOT self-mailers or padded envelopes. And all sales regardless of purchase price are bubble-wrapped and surrounded by Styrofoam peanuts. Please browse our catalogs, including autographed first books, books signed by deceased authors, books signed and dated in the year of publication and Comic Books-Action Figures.
