Veau fauve glacé, dos orné de caissons fleuronés, double filet doré d'encadrement sur les plats, tranches marbrées. Reliure de l'époque signée Hodgson Binder, Liverpool. (Légers frottements). William Ellis (1794-1872) a été envoyé à Madagascar en 1853, chargé par la London Missionary Society d'améliorer la souffrance de leurs convertis sous le règne de la reine Ranavalona. Pendant son séjour à Madagascar, il a rassemblé une mine d'informations sur l'île et ses habitants , la société, les coutumes, la religion et l'histoire naturelle et a collecté des échantillons botaniques pour les jardins rotatifs de Kew. Il a visité le Cap en 1854 sur lequel il donne un compte rendu intéressant de nombreux endroits ainsi que des notes botaniques et des informations concernant les indigènes. Edition originale.
