1931. First edition, first printing. No. 1255 of 1300 copies. Part 8 of Proust's 'Remembrance of Things Past' which was at this stage being translated by Stephen Hudson after the death of C.K. Scott Moncrieff. SIGNED and inscribed by Hudsonon the half title page with a lengthy inscription to novelist, translator Gerard Hopkins (nephew of Gerard Manley Hopkins). Stephen Hudson was the pen name of Sydney Schiff. He was a novelist and translator and important patron of modernist writers and artists and a friend of Proust. The book is bound in the publisher's blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine. There is light wear and light soiling to the covers but the book is generally in excellent condition. Light foxing to edges and endpapers.
