The book was dedicated to Alexander Scott and this is his copy with a presentation inscription from the author on the inside of the front cover ("To Alex/ in sincere admiration/for this poet, critic, playwright/editor and/not least, teacher of Scots literature/from/ Duncan/18th May 1977").
