Octavo (19.75cm); black cloth, with titling and decorative elements stamped in blue on spine and front cover; blue topstain; dustjacket; [6],7-218,[6]pp. With the ink ownership signature on the upper front endpaper of the author's wife (Verna Holman, May 1945), to whom the book is dedicated (printed dedication reads "For V.V." = Verna Virginia). Modest external wear, some faint surface abrasions to cloth extremities; contents fresh; Very Good+. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $2.00), showing trivial wear to extremities, some tiny tears and creases to crown and upper corners; Near Fine. The second of six detective novels by Holman (1914-1981), five of which feature his central character Sheriff Macready of fictional Hart County, South Carolina.
