He covers the history of the paddle-wheel steamboats from the first one on the Mississippi River in 1811, the "NEW ORLEANS",to the fonding and growth of the paddle-wheel steamboat companies on the upper Mississippi River -- from passenger and freight steamboats to excursion paddle-wheel steamboats of today.

Captian Ron Larson,U.S.M.M. Ret., began working on the upper Mississippi River in 1956 after serving in the United States Navy during World WAr II in the South Pacific. Most of Captain Ron's piloting was on the upper Mississippi River on towboats between St.Louis, Missouri, and St. Paul,Minnesota, with an occasional trip on most of the other navigable rivers. He has experience piloting stern Paddle-wheel boats, twin,triple,and single screw towboats up to 4600 horsepower, pushing tows upto 1190 feet in length. Now during Captian Ron's retirement years he still does part-timg piloting on the river excursion boats, He has worked on the "Mississippi Queen", "Delta Queen", "Valley Queen", M"Mississippi Belle","Jubilee", and "Mark twain".
