Presentation copy from the author to his literary agent, inscribed on the half-title page: "To Juliet (O'Hea), launcher of imaginery voyages, towards the Pacific and elsewhere, Nicolas Freeling 1966." A mediterranean novel set in Porquerolles, where a Parisian film star meets and energizes Raymond into attemping his dream of crossing the Atlantic Ocean in his boat, the Olivia. But money is needed to refit her, and crime seems to promise its quick acquisition. Because of the need for money, the mood shifts quickly to the urgency for cash, and the story moves faster to its climax, the encounter between Raymond and the French patrol boat.
