Add to basketFirst edition. 3 volumes. 8vo. Bound in dark blue buckram with titles in gilt. Small breaks in cloth on heads and bases of spines otherwise very good condition. Volume One :with frontispiece portrait of William Alllilngham from a drawing by his wife Helen. Contents "Rambles by Patricius Walker". Part 1. Volume 2. Content: Rambles by Patricius Walker." Part 11. Volume 3. Contents; Irish Sketches, Etc. The volumes are signed and presented by his widow Helen to John Allingham ( his brother). in 1894. Each volume are also signed by S.C.Allingham. William Allingham was an Irish Poet, Diarist and Editor. was born in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal. He is famous for his poem "The Faeries"-[Up the airy mountain, down the rushy glen, we dare not go a-hunting for fear of little men. " etc. But he is perhaps more famous for his posthumously published Diary recording his visits with Tennyson and Carlyle and other writers and artists. His wife Helen, who was 24 years his junior, was a water colour artist; and it was due to her that by her husbandls wish that this collected editionof his prose writings were published. in 1893.Rare title.
