Mattapoisett: Lehrer / Baker, 1980. 10"x 16" oblong quarto, 96 p., spiral bound, printed on Cranes all rag 20 and 2, published in an edition of 150 (this copy being No. 65) (from the colophon). Lehrer's first offset printed book, which grew out of his MFA thesis at Yale, and which won the AIGA Book Award (the first MFA thesis to do so) and the International Book Design Award (Leipzig), featuring original music composed by Dan Plonzey and hand lettering by Jan Baker. Versations provides the setting for eight characters, including Sarah the Doll Lady, a Hindu Missionary, Sailor Bob, and others, and is designed to be either read alone or used as a performance score. This is a VG copy, with fading to board edges, light spotting and discoloration to cloth, minor fraying to corners, rear board gently bowed, but a sound copy with some minor soiling and crimping to title page, minor buckling to text block in places, clean otherwise, with two prospectuses laid in.
