Grade 8 Up Fifty-three selections from Walt Whitman's poems, roughly spanning the poet's journey from youth to old age. As in Rainbows Are Made (HBJ, 1984), to which this book is a companion volume, Hopkins shows his deep respect for this American poet. The Whitman of Voyages is, indeed, a searcher for truth and a celebrator of the human spirit. The book's layout, with its clear typeface and Mikolaycak's strong black-and-white drawings, reinforces the dignity of the text.
