First edition hardback in dust jacket. Inscription on front flyleaf reads ÒTo Denis Ð Remember, the pigeon arriving at the temple honors no god. Gene 12/20/69Ó. Smith was the most famous and respected American photojournalist in the mid-20th century, the high point of print photojournalism. He produced masterful photo essays for Life Magazine from the late 1940Õs to the mid 1950Õs. This was his first photo monograph. Very few copies were signed, apparently only for friends and admirers. With an insightful, extended essay by Lincoln Kirstein. Book is in fine condition - clean and square. Dust jacket is in very good condition with light wear to spine ends. Seller Inventory # 10244
