Georgetown CA: Talisman Literary Research, 1971. First edition. A fine copy in copper-colored boards with gilt lettering in a near-fine, clean dustwrapper with tiny chips at the head of the spine. Fields served on the faculty of Stanford University and wrote many scholarly studies on Wallace Stevens, Wendell Berry, Mina Loy, Donald Evans and Walter Conrad Arensberg. His poetry has been widely distributed. Thirty-five of the best appear here. Fields has signed this copy on the title page but has also inscribed it on the front free endpaper to John Williams and his wife, Nancy. Williams is the celebrated author of Augustus (National Book Award Winner), Stoner and Butcher's Crossing. The inscription reads: "For John and Nancy, an old friendship and a new one. Ken.".
