The first printing with the "A-X" code on the copyright page. Signed by Zane Grey on the front flyleaf. This Western novel about a young cowboy searching for the man who killed his father served as the basis for the 1945 Wallace Grissell and Edward Killy film starring James Warren in his RKO debut. Octavo: [x], 419, [1, blank] pp. with a frontispiece and 2 plates by W. Herbert Dunton. Original red cloth binding, with pictorial black stamping. Just a hint of wear to the corners and tips. The dust jacket is edgeworn and a bit toned, with some shallow chipping adjacent to the spine head and a few tears and creases; else very good.
