Item description from seller

First edition, first printing. Signed by Budd Schulberg on the front free endpaper. [vi], 303 pp. Bound in publisher's two-toned blue cloth ruled and lettered in gilt, blue topstain. Good+ with lean and heavy sunning to spine, wear. Small dampstains to lower edge of textblock impinging slightly on lower margins of first few pages. In a Very Good supplied first-state dust jacket, price torn off, moderately toned and worn and slightly soiled and foxed, with vertical crease to spine panel and chipping at head and tail. The classic novel of cut-throat Hollywood by a young former G.I. who grew up in the business and later won an Academy Award for his screenplay for On the Waterfront. Uncommon as a first edition. The book was adapted as a musical in the 1960s, but has never yet been filmed for theatrical release.
