Photo Portrait Frontis; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 236 pages; [SIGNED] 1929 Edwards & Broughton Company, for the author. HC soundly bound in original dark blue cloth lettered in gilt. In an edition limited to 300 copies, this copy signed by Gertude Haywood on the limitation leaf but not numbered and out of sequence. Notably the book is inscribed on the front endpage to Bayard Wooten, the highly regarded pioneer woman photographer of North Carolina, whose own experience with marital desertion would seem to parallel in some regard that of Gertrude Haywood. Inscription at front appears to be in Haywood's hand and reads, "For dear Byayrd Wootten / December 1929." If you have read this far in the description, you are likely aware of some of the details of the scandal involving Ernest Haywood and Gertrude and the resulting murder and sensational tial that rocked North Carolina society in 1903. The great amount of the scandal and murder circled around the paternity of Ernest Eagles Haywood and the martial status of Gertrude. The larger part of the book is devoted to letters from Ernest Eagles to his mother, Gertrude. Mild small areas of silverfish scaling to cloth and light spotting and foxiong to first and last few leaves. Notable provenance. VG-; Signed by Author.
