A first edition copy of this memoir Blanche Oelrichs, known as Michael Strange. The personal copy of English socialite, Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie, with an inscription from the author. Presenting a first edition copy of this very smart memoir by American poet, playwright, and actress Blanche Oelrichs (1890-1950). She was often known by her nom de plume, Michael Strange. Blanche Oelrichs was a also a strong activist for women's suffrage, and was the wife of John Barrymore, a distant relative of American actress Drew Barrymore. This work contains fifteen illustrated plates, collated and complete. This work also contains an inscription from the author to her close personal friend, English socialite Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie: 'For Audrey James, My dear and beautiful friend, Michael Strange, 1947 - Aug - 31st'.Pleydell-Bouverie was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire. Audrey was also alleged to be the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII, although she was also rumoured to be his daugher, or the lover of King Edward VIII. She bought Julians Park in 1940 following her third marriage to the Hon Peter Pleydell-Bouverie. Her circle of friends included Winston Churchill, Coco Chanel and Nancy Mitford. She was featured in Cecil Beaton's 'Book of Beauty' and was regarded as one of the Bright Young Things. This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with just a small amount of bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Author's ink inscription to the half title page. Internally, firmly bound. A small amount of spotting to the fore-edge, not affecting the pages, which are generally bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # 795J29
