A bound-in page states "Special Edition printed for the purpose of interesting readers in the plight of the lepers, and the scientific efforts being made to solve one of the oldest illnesses. Not to be sold." No dust jacket. the corners are bumped, there is bumping to the cap and base of the spine, and the pageblock has toning. The story of an American soldier who contracted leprosy during the Spanish-American War, winner of the National Book Award for Nonfiction. By the minister, fundraiser, writer, and authority on leprosy, head of the Leonard Wood Memorial for the Eradication of Leprosy and author of "Born of Those Years: An Autobiography". Rare.
