Signed by Christopher Hitchens on the title page, inscribed in the year of publication, "For Michael / with warm salute, Christopher Hitchens / 10.xii.02" Michael's brief notes about what Hitchens discussed that day laid in. xii, 211 pp. Bound in publisher's white and grey paper covered boards with spine lettered in copper foil. Near Fine, sunned slightly through the jacket, In a Very Good+ unclipped dust jacket, sunned along spine panel.One iconoclastic British essayist's defense of another. Orwell is famous for his dystopian novels (Animal Farm & 1984) but his nonfiction is perhaps even more critically acclaimed. Hitchens examines Orwell's struggles with censorship, his discomfort with both the political left and right, his shortcomings, and sees himself. Like Orwell, his promising career would be cut short by an untimely death.
