About this Item

Two volumes bound in matching brown pebbled cloth with black decorations and gilt titles. With some bumping / rubbing to the extremities. One of the outer spine seems is detached, although the spine still sits tight and is firmly attached on the opposite seem. The inner hinges are also cracked, but the binding and text block are still tight. Each volume has the bookplate of Sydney Ross Emeritus Professor of Colloid Science Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Also with the bookplates of Denis Duveen a well known science collector whose Library was purchased by a well known University library in the 1950's. This copy has a 17 line handwritten letter dated December 13th 1855 by Whewell, signed and initialed by him, which was folded and has a piece of paper stuck to its rear. The texts of around 850 pages and fairly clean. Rare thus.
