Tight and internally pristine, with binding (only) showing faint wear and a bit of spine sunning; lacks dust jacket. Nice first edition of this collection from the high-level career government official (1909-94) who served as JFK and LBJ's secretary of state -- with choice presentation inscription by him in black ink of front flyleaf: "To Adlai Stevenson, whose / dedicated public service has inspired the nation / Dean Rusk." Former Illinois governor and two-time Democratic presidential candidate Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65) had served as fifth U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. since January 1961 and would do so until his death in London in July 1965. Quite an unusual copy.
