First Edition (Number Line to 1). You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They look very nice. The gilt lettering on the spine is bright. The cover edges are in excellent shape, no rubbing. The cover corners are also in excellent shape, no rubbing. The page edges are perfectly clean. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are a light blue. They are perfectly clean. The same can be said for all the pages in the book. I'm not finding any soiling. I'm also not finding any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the author's signed inscription represents the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It is in very nice condition, very clean, no tears. There is a slightly darker hue on both sides of the spine. That will be the case with all the dust jackets for this book as there is a change in the texture on both the front and rear covers of the book. The flaps are also in very nice condition, clean, no tears. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. 'The Winged Seed won the American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation. It is written in a poetic, non-linear style that blurs the boundary between prose and poetry. Lee’s great-grandfather was Yuan Shikai, the first president of the Republic of China. His father, Lee Kuo Yuan (or Guoyuan), was a physician, a Christian theologian, and at one time a personal secretary/physician to Mao Zedong before they fell out. The memoir recounts the family fleeing political turmoil in China for Indonesia, where they faced severe persecution under President Sukarno. Lee's father was falsely charged with crimes against the state and spent nearly a year and a half as a political prisoner, including time in a leper colony. After escaping and enduring a multi-year trek through Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, and Malaysia, the family eventually immigrated to the United States in 1964, where his father became a Presbyterian minister in Pennsylvania.'.…

Reviews
Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc.
An autobiography at once intimate and sweeping, this work traces the path followed by poet Lee (Rose, BOA Editions, dist. by Consortium, 1986, and The City in Which I Love You, BOA Editions, dist. by Consortium, 1990) and his family. Born into a prominent Chinese family in residence in Jakarta, Lee was shaped by his scholarly father's imprisonment under the virulently anti-Chinese Sukarno; the family odyssey began when they escaped from Indonesia. His father eventually became a preacher in Hong Kong, with his final calling in a church in rust-belt Pennsylvania. Lee interweaves remembrances of incidents from his childhood with dreams, myths, his father's sermons (dimly remembered), and mundane recollections, such as the seeds in his father's coat pocket or the coconut oil in his Indonesian nanny's hair. To the son, the powerful father figure embodied cruelty, Christian kindness, inspiration, deprivation, devotion, and penetrating insight. In this lyrical yet stark rendering of a family of modern China, we see the inner development of the author from his childhood in the 1950s to the present and his adaptation to new world and new perceptions of reality. Store description
Many of the books I will be selling can accurately be described as ranging from somewhat rare to very rare. In some cases there won't be another copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. There doesn't seem much point, for you or me, in offering something that so many others are already offering. Subject matter will range very widely, creating the possibility for people with very different interests to find something that excites them. As regards pricing, my primary goal is to sell the book. Most often I would expect my book to be the least expensive option on the Internet taking into account an appropriate comparison(what is the condition, is the dust jacket present, is the book signed, is it a first printing, etc.). More important than selling the book I want to make sure that you know, as much as is possible, exactly what you are getting. To that end, you'll notice that my descriptions of condition tend to be lengthy, and that there will always be photographs to help you draw your own conclusions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about a given book. As regards international shipping, the first class or standard rates I charge are based on a package weight between 2 and 3 pounds. If the book is on the thin side there is a possibility that I can securely pack it up under 2 pounds in weight. If so, the shipping price will drop by around $11.00 or $12.00 to $26.00-27.00. Canada, which is less expensive drops to $18.00. You can contact me before purchasing a book for an estimate on the shipping cost. If you buy the book and it weighs in below 2 pounds you'll get a Reduced Shipping message and amount with the invoice and you'll see the lowered final cost before you make your payment.…
