Small slim 8vo. Pp. 61. Text in Russian and English. Yellow printed wrappers. Clean, bright and fresh. Inscribed "to Prof James Freedman" by the author. Issued simultaneously with hardcover edition. An important association copy inscribed by Solzhenitsyn to James Freedman, president of Dartmouth (1987-1998). Solzhenitsyn's USSR citizenship, revoked in 1974, was restored in 1990. In 1991, while in exile in Vermont, he was invited by Freedman to Dartmouth to receive an honorary degree on June 9. That newsworthy event marked the Russian dissident's return to international recognition, and indeed a thawing of the decades-old Cold War.
