First Edition -- Inscribed to General Robert E. Wood -- of this high action memoir by well-connected mid 20th Century FBI agent Frederick Ayer Jr. A nephew of General S. Patton, Ayer had an early success at the Bureau as part of a surveillance operation that spotted Ayer's Harvard classmate and young naval officer John F. Kennedy, consorting with a comely German operative. Ayer was enthusiastically involved in a number of anti Communist operations, activities that surely put him in good stead with inscribee General Wood. Wood, president of Sears Roebuck and a major U.S. Army during World War I, was a famously resolute mid century conservative leader who's credentials including founding the World War II era America First Committee.
