A well-written account of his time in the Royal Navy from his mobilisation at the beginning of World War I including a chapter on his time in Scarborough to his posting on the battlecruiser H.M.S. Tiger and the Battle of Jutland and its aftermath. He would rise to the rank of Surgeon Rear-Admiral RN. He had retired with his wife Anna to South Devon and wrote a number of books including 'Messing about in boats' and a work on the life of Captain James Cook. Upon the outbreak of World War II he volunteered with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was posted to the Motor Yacht 'Campeador'. 'Campeador' was lost with all hands after hitting a mine during a patrol of the English Channel on the 22nd June 1940. This copy of 'Years of Endurance' is signed by Muir to the title page with a pencil note by a previous owner of the book: 'Signed by the above only a short time before he was blown up in H.M.M.Y Campeador'. Illustrated with photographs. Cloth a little faded and marked to the boards. Pages nice and clean. Binding nice and tight. Neat pencil inscription to the front paste-down. A very good copy. Scarce in the first edition and especially so signed.
