A tight and handsome first edition of this diary of the senior American diplomat (he was charge d'affaires of the U.S. Embassy) seized by Iranians in 1979 -- bearing a large signature and inscription in black fineline that fills much of the front flyleaf: "To Dorothy Sanchez / -- with love and thanks / for keeping the faith with / us in Tehran -- / Bruce Laingen / October 15, 1993 / U. of Dubuque.".
