Van Sant was raised in central Missouri in a family with close ties to the Trumans, Harry, Bess, and Margaret.� He was a graduate of Trinity College, Hartford, Washington University, with further education at University�of London and Harvard.�He became president and CEO of General Steel Industries of St Louis, was a founder of Opera Theater of St Louis and was well connected in the field of the arts, politics and industry.�He had extensive correspondence with various persons of note in these fields.
